Centre for ultrasound diagnostics
Services provided:
Combined screening in the first trimester, including preeclampsia screening
The examination is carried out at the foetal age 11-13+6 by examination of biochemical markers from the mother's blood and ultrasound examination of the foetus. Based on these examinations, the risk of the most common chromosomal defects for the foetus (Down's, Edwards' and Patau's syndrome) is determined. Blood sampling is carried out from week 11+0 (confirmation of gestational age from the treating gynaecologist is necessary), ultrasound examination follows approximately one week later.
The examination is carried out by doctors with the international Foetal Medicine Foundation certification.
During the examination, the foetal morphology is also assessed with a special focus on organ developmental defects.
Part of the examination is preeclampsia screening, a combination of biochemical markers from the mother's blood and an examination of the flow in the uterine arteries. This disease is associated with maternal high blood pressure, and can endanger the mother and the development of the foetus. If the screening is positive, the doctor will prescribe you a medicine with acetylsalicylic acid, which significantly reduces the incidence of this disease.
The examination is recommended by the Czech Gynaecological and Obstetrical Society, but is not covered by the insurance company. The price of the examination is CZK 1200. Most insurance companies refund this fee based on the submitted proof of payment.
Second trimester, Detailed foetal morphology
It takes place at pregnancy week 19 to 22. This is the most important examination to rule out fetal organ defects. During the examination, we determine the foetal growth, the placental position and the amount of amniotic fluid. The appearance of the internal organs is evaluated in detail, including an assessment of the morphology and proper functioning of the heart.
Third trimester
Examination in pregnancy week 30 to 32. This examination is based on determination of the fetus size. The individual organs, the state and position of the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid are to be evaluated. In some cases, we measure the blood flow rate in the umbilical cord and other blood vessels of the fetus.
Specialist prenatal and gynaecological examinations
Specialist examination in case of suspected congenital developmental defect of the fetus, fetal growth restriction, unclear ultrasound findings.
Unclear or suspected gynaecological ultrasound findings.
Invasive prenatal diagnosis
In cooperation with the TUH Department of Medical Genetics, we perform sampling of chorionic villi (placental tissue, between week 11 and 13) and amniotic fluid (from week 16). Sampling is performed by inserting a thin needle through the abdominal wall under ultrasound guidance.
