• Delivery rooms

Virtual tour of the department

  • The maternity hospital is a perinatal centre for births after week 32 of pregnancy.
  • The delivery ward is divided into four separate delivery rooms, guaranteeing quiet privacy for the expectant mother and accompanying persons.
  • Each delivery room has its own bathroom and toilet.
  • Part of the delivery ward is a surgical room for caesarean sections.
  • The neonatal box for providing care for the child after birth is part of the delivery ward complex. It has been modernized and is equipped with special heating beds, allowing the newborn to be resuscitated.
  • Births in our hospital may only be conducted by the staff of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, TUH Hospital (doctor or midwife) or by an external doctor contracted by TUH.
  • We recommend that women who are preparing a birth plan take the opportunity to consult with the delivery room staff in advance. With a doctor in the prenatal clinic or with a midwife at antenatal courses or during a tour of the delivery room. This will prevent any misunderstandings during childbirth.
  • Pre-expressed wishes (hereinafter PEW) are not legally binding for us, but in general we respect birth plans as your idea of the course of childbirth. Most birth plans contain wishes and requirements that are our standard procedure. However, some wishes can only be met if the birth course is uncomplicated. Sometimes we encounter requests that cannot be met, either for technical reasons or for safety reasons for mother and child. If situations arise during the birth where the birth plan cannot be followed, we will try to find the best alternative based on agreement with you.
  • In our maternity hospital, we offer our mothers the following procedures in the first stage of labour: Vaginal steaming (everything needed, including herbs, is available in the delivery room), Rebozo scarf (can be borrowed from us), Aromatherapy (aroma lamps and essential oils – all ready for use and free of charge).
  • For relaxation, the expectant mother can use balls, a shower, music therapy (CD players are available).
  • The delivery rooms are equipped with a birthing couch, which can be used by the woman during the first and second periods of labour (throughout the entire delivery).
  • In our facility, we conduct deliveries "lege artis", which means according to the latest knowledge of science and medicine and according to the recommended procedures of professional societies.
  • And also according to the conditions set by internal regulations.
  • We are a licensed obstetric clinic for the collection of cord blood for the child’s own use (CORD BLOOD information HERE, NCPK – National Cord Blood Centre, information HERE (.pdf, CZ)).

Baby Friendly Hospital

  • High-quality paediatric care is guaranteed thanks to the connection to the neonatal intensive care unit.
  • Breastfeeding is allowed as soon as possible after birth.
  • A physiological newborn is placed on the mother's stomach after birth if the condition of the child and mother is normal after birth.
  • The maternity hospital staff at TUH adheres to all principles for breastfeeding support.

Accompanying persons

  • The expectant mother is in the delivery room with her chosen companion. Currently, it is possible to have 2 accompanying persons at the birth.
  • The presence of a birth companion in the operating room is possible if the birth is managed surgically under epidural or spinal analgesia. However, during an emergency caesarean section under general anaesthesia, the accompanying person should wait for the birth of the baby in the operating room waiting lounge. If the neonate's health allows it, the accompanying person can be the first to take the baby in their arms after treatment and welcome his/her.
If the accompanying person does not use the opportunity to be in the operating room and the situation allows it, the baby is under the supervision of the delivery room staff together with the mother in the operating room.
  • If the mother is accompanied by a doula, it is necessary that the doula is a member of the Association of Doulas. The doula must prove this with an ID card and is treated as an accompanying person.
  • If the mother is accompanied to the delivery room by her private midwife, the latter is an accompanying person who is not authorized to interfere with the decisions of the doctor or midwife regarding the way of conducting the birth, nor to conduct the birth independently, but shall only provide the mother with psychological support. The delivery method is consulted only with the mother. Upon admission to the delivery room, the accompanying person is educated about this by the staff.
