HYSTEROSCOPIC RESECTION OF SUBMUCOSAL FIBROID

Some types of submucosal fibroids are more suitable to be removed by hysteroscopy. The procedure is also known as transcervical fibroid resection.

Procedure

Hysteroscopic fibroid resection is performed through the vagina, when a hysteroscope is inserted into the uterine cavity through the cervix and the fibroid is gradually removed or significantly reduced with the help of an electric loop. In some cases, the surgery must be performed in 2 to 3 stages to avoid unintentional perforation of the uterine wall.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and only requires a one-day hospitalization.
