Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control

Characteristics

The Department of Hospital Hygiene and Epidemiology performs prophylactic and repressive surveillance in the area of epidemiology and hygiene, continuously co-generating and inspecting the compliance with hygienic and anti-epidemic rules. The department records nosocomial infections and performs nosocomial infection analyses, evaluates microbiological findings in health-care facilities, and cooperates in developing operational anti-epidemic rules.

Specialized Department Profile

• Monitoring of nosocomial infections is the Department´s key target.
• Objectification is complemented by the performance of continuous prevalence studies on the infection rates in hospital units.
• The results subsequently serve to optimize procedures leading to minimization of the infection rates.
