Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory

Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology

The Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology performs laboratory analyses and pharmacological consultations with specific task to provide therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), analysis and PK interpretation of the levels of a drug and its metabolites in the serum, plasma, and urine to ensure optimal dosing schemes for the patient (ie, to select the dose and dosing intervals). The interpretation is a crucial part to help the physician to optimize the therapeutic effect and minimize the risk of toxicity. The patient´s age and weight, potential drug interactions, selection of drugs, adverse effects of drugs, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics are all taken into consideration and evaluated. The department is accredited for postgraduate education in clinical pharmacology and participates in clinical trials of new drugs.
