Hospital Blood Collection Site (Phlebotomy)

Characteristics

The blood collection site collects biological materials from outpatient clients using an evacuated blood collection system. Collected samples are sent to specialized laboratories for analysis.

Procedure

The client visits the collection site and presents at the reception desk

• with a completed request form, tube labels and, possibly, with a sample of urine or other clinical material (occult bleeding etc.), or
• with a bar code-labeled identification card

The waiting room is equipped with a patient call system.

Note

Clients with urgent requests take preference over the patient call system.

Results of examinations (analyses) are distributed to the requesting physicians electronically using the hospital information system (MEDEA).
