Characteristics:

The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics belongs to the three largest facilities in Prague and Central Bohemia and provides comprehensive care within a catchment area with a population of 400,000. The department has 76 acute beds, 17 premium service beds, and 5 beds in its intensive care unit for postoperative care. Approximately 2,000 deliveries and more that 3,000 gynecological surgical procedures are performed each year. In more than 40% of cases, endoscopic gynecological surgery is preferred.

The department serves as the premature delivery (pre-term birth) center (ie. babies born between 30 and 36 weeks of gestation) for Prague and Central Bohemia regions, and cooperates closely with the Hospital´s Department of Neonatology.

The department cooperates with Hospital´´s Department of Oncology and the Prague-based General Teaching Hospital in the area of gynecologic oncology.

The staff is committed to ensuring every patient is treated with utmost dignity and consideration, respecting all needs and requirements of the patient and her family, as well as providing everyone with the highest quality of care in a safe and comfortable environment.

  • Compulsory summer training programs for medical students.
  • Educational and training programs for future general nurses and delivery assistants.
  • Training and education for medical school students wishing to specialize as „rescuers“ and „health-care assistants“.
