Clinic of Rheumatology and Physiotherapy 3rd Faculty of Medicine Charles University and Thomayer University Hospital has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of all diseases affecting connective tissue and all inflammatory, degenerative, metabolic and function disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

The conditions treated in our clinic include various types of arthritis, including common diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and rare diseases such as relapsing polychondritis and multicentric reticulohistiocytosis. In addition, physicians offer consultative and continuing care for patients with local musculoskeletal disorders such as shoulder, hip, and knee pain. Preoperative evaluation and recommendations for patients considering hip joint replacement and arthritis-related reconstructive surgery are also provided.

Advanced therapeutic options and procedures are available in our clinic such as: electrodiagnostic testing, electrical nerve and muscle stimulation in cases of peripheral paralysis, extensive possibility of hydrotherapy, electrotherapy and laser therapy.


Magnetotherapy, ultrasound therapy, specialized individual exercise programs using ball, stationary bicycle, and other equipment are additional optional therapeutic techniques and tools.

Our counseling center provides support to women having breast surgery, patients who experience lower extremity swelling and impaired blood supply the their limbs, to patients after various orthopedic surgical procedures, and so on. The clinic is internationally recognized and involved in the conduct of Phase II-IV clinical trials (FDA-controlled).

Advanced methods of biological treatment of systemic inflammatory diseases have also been introduced. The „osteocenter“ and bone densitometry departments perform diagnosis of skeleton-related diseases (osteoporosis).

Physiotherapy is a key service for those with physical impairment as a result of disease or injury. Patients may have short- or long-term conditions which can be respiratory, musculoskeletal or neurological origin. Physiotherapists help patients to regain their full physical abilities, or make best use of impaired function. Rehabilitation within the hospital setting involves helping the patient to learn new skills or adapt to existing ones to enable them to engage in all aspects of their lives.
